Hardangervidda: Day trip by car

Drive National Toursit Route Hardangervidda  and enjoy the scenery of the vast Hardangervidda high mountain plateau comfortably in your car. The highest point of the road is Dyranut, about 1250 meters above sea level. One kilometer east of Dyranut, by Tråstølen, a little toll road goes off south to the lake Tinnhølen. There is parking by the lake, right at the border of Hardangervidda National Park.

From the parking you can follow a dirt road south/eastwards into the national park for about 5 km. This dirt road is closed to cars, but very easy to do on foot or with bicycle. Here you are in the higher areas of Hardangervidda, with typical tundra-like scenery. In good weather you see Mount Hårteigen in the distance, the highest peak in Ullensvang 1,690 masl.

Season: approximately 1st July to approximately 15th September.
Note: stay on the dirt road, then you do not have to bring a topographical map and compass. If you take off from the road, to follow one of the trails, you need map and compass. Without you can get lost, especially in foggy weather.
