There is a public toilet next to the Mix-Kroa fast food restaurant. There is a bigger public toilet 10 km from here as well, on the road to Odda, in Brimnes next to the old ferry port. Especially suitable for larger groups and tour buses.

There is an ATM next to the Coop supermarket on the right hand side.
Are there any shops in Eidfjord?
We have 2 supermarkets and 2 souvenir / gift shops, both in the centre of Eidfjord. The YX-Eidfjord petrol station has a little minimarket as well.

You can get a sim card or telephone top-up in the Mix-Kroa fast food kiosk right in the centre of Eidfjord.
Do you have a Vinmonopolet shop here? (The Norwegian liquor store which sells alcohol higher than 5%)
You can get beer, cider and any other alcoholic beverage under 5% in the supermarkets.
The closest Vinmonopol shops are in Odda, Geilo or Voss (all ca 1 hr drive away).
Can I fish in the fjord?

Does the Troll train go to the waterfall?
No, the Troll train stopped running in the mountains many years ago, today it runs in the centre of Eidfjord (details about the tour) during cruise calls (cruise call list) and when booked by groups.
Is there a shop where you can buy fresh fish in town?
No, but the Unik gift shop sells frozen fish from the area.
The closest shop selling fresh fish is the Spar shop in Kinsarvik, 28 km from here.
We arrive with the Tedno boat and have 3 hours to spend in Eidfjord, what can we do?
You can join the Eidfjord sightseeing tour, which is made for the passengers on the boat or you can rent a bike at the tourist office and explore the area. Highly recommended is the route into Simadalen to Skytjefossen. We also have 2 recommended local walks in town different things to see, like the old St.Jacobs church from the 13th century, Trebua woodshop and fiddle museum next to the church, the Viking graves and the N.Bergslien art gallery, for description of the walks and locations for the other sights, take a look at our town map here.
Can we drink the tap water in Eidfjord?
Yes, of course. The quality of the water is better than some bottled water. We all drink tap water here and if you are in the mountains you can drink safely the mountain water on the top of the Hardangervidda or flowing water from the mountain rivers high up there. A tip is to take an empty bottle through the check in, at the airport, and fill up your bottle before your flight.
What are those houses on the other side of the fjord opposite the cruise port?
Skår was a farm already in use in the early 1900, in 1960 63 people were living there. In the 80s it was bought by a rich businessman from Bergen and it is now for his private use.
Are there any whales here in the fjord?
No, but sometimes you see seals and little dolphins called ‘Nise’ in Norwegian
Can we drive into the national park?
There is a road next to Road 7, 1 km from from Dyranut to Trondsbu / Tinnhølen, which takes you into the Hardangervidda Nationalpark, it opens around July 1st. You have to pay a Fee of 100 Nok.
Can you put a tent up for free in the Hardangervidda?
Yes, all over Norway you are allowed to camp free on public ground but not too close to a tourist hut or private ground.
Can you see reindeer driving through the Hardangervidda plateau on the road 7?
Sorry, no you cannot!
Are there any mosquitos on the plateau?
Oh yes, especially in the summer months of July and August, so do not forget your repellent.
